For centuries, Italy has been a destination and inspiration for artists. Using museums, piazzas, and basilicas as our living classroom, students will study directly from master artists such as Da Vinci, Botticelli, Michelangelo, and Carvaggio. Students will use materials such as graphite, charcoal, water media, and collage to create artwork inspired by the surrounding art, architecture, and culture. After returning from Italy, students will curate and participate in an on-campus exhibition, representing the work they made. Prior to the trip, students will be introduced to materials and techniques that they can incorporate into their artwork (Italy coursework). Students will also be introduced to cultural expectations, basic language and communication skills, along with a background in Italian art history and knowledge of Italian contemporary art. Food and basic travel language will be introduced and practiced throughout the trip, for example students will be able to order coffee or buy something at a pharmacy. This trip will integrate practical skills to communicate and travel throughout Italy, along with an appreciation and understanding of Italian art and culture. No requisites. Institutional Course Syllabus
